Pabna, Mar 08 (V7N) - BNP leader in Chatmohar, Pabna, has alleged that his house was attacked and vandalized due to past feuds and attempts to establish local dominance. Saiful Islam, former joint convener of Failjana Union BNP, claims that Ekramul Haque Mamun, joint convener of Chatmohar Upazila Chhatra Dal, and his associates carried out the attack on Friday afternoon.
Saiful Islam alleges that Mamun and 10-12 individuals attempted to break down his main gate and, failing that, vandalized the rear of his property, including the tin house and kitchen. They also reportedly broke windows and attempted to set the house on fire. The attack occurred while Saiful Islam was not home, causing panic among the women present.
The incident is reportedly linked to a dispute over the allocation of rice to the Minhaj More Jame Mosque. Saiful Islam denies any involvement in the mosque committee's internal issues or the alleged rice embezzlement, accusing Mamun of fabricating accusations to discredit him. He believes Mamun is attempting to assert dominance in the area and undermine his political standing.
Monirul Islam, president of the Failjana Union Volunteer Party, supported Saiful Islam's claims, stating that Mamun is attempting to elevate his own status by harassing and humiliating the established BNP leader. Failjana Union BNP member secretary Abdur Razzak Palan condemned the attack and called for party action against the accused.
Ekramul Haque Mamun denied the allegations, claiming that locals, angered by Saiful Islam's alleged involvement in the mosque rice theft and subsequent assault on community members, vandalized the house. He denies his involvement.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjurul Alam stated that no formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident. He assured that legal action would be taken if a complaint is lodged.
