Dhaka, Mar 29 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has returned to Dhaka after completing a four-day official visit to China. He departed from Beijing Capital International Airport on Saturday, where he was seen off by Hong Lei, Assistant Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chief Protocol Officer to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, Dr. Yunus received a significant honor when Peking University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) degree during a ceremony held at the university's conference hall. This recognition is a testament to his longstanding contributions to the fields of social business and poverty alleviation.

Earlier, on Friday (March 28), the Chinese government and companies pledged a substantial financial support package to Bangladesh, which includes $2.1 billion in loans, investments, and grants. Additionally, several key agreements were signed, including an economic and technical cooperation agreement and eight memorandums of understanding (MOUs), aimed at fostering bilateral relations in various sectors, including cultural exchange, media cooperation, sports, and health sector collaborations.

Among the prominent agreements was the beginning of investment talks, the launch of a Special Economic Zone in China, and initiatives such as the modernization and expansion of Mongla Port and the establishment of a robot physiotherapy and rehabilitation center in Bangladesh. Furthermore, the Chinese government pledged to donate a cardiac surgery vehicle to Bangladesh as part of its ongoing support to the country's healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Yunus was accompanied by several senior officials from the Bangladesh government, including Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs of the Chief Advisor's Office Lamia Morshed, and Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor Shafiqul Alam. The visit underscored the growing ties between Bangladesh and China, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening their diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations.
