Bangkok, Apr 3 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the need for a shift in governance and economic practices, urging young people to take a leading role in shaping the future. Speaking at the BIMSTEC Young Gen Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday afternoon, he stressed that a country cannot progress by following the same old rules and must innovate its management approach.
Dr. Yunus began his speech by sharing his experiences with Grameen Bank, highlighting how microfinance has empowered people. He pointed out that businesses should not solely focus on profit but must also work toward societal transformation and resource balance, while ensuring environmental sustainability.
"Profit in business is fine, but when greed takes over an entrepreneur's mind, that business is bound to fail," he warned. Encouraging the youth to think beyond conventional business models, he added, "Young people are the future. I draw inspiration from them."
Following his speech, Dr. Yunus engaged in a Q&A session with young participants, discussing strategies for inclusive economic development and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus arrived in Thailand at noon local time on Thursday to attend the BIMSTEC summit. On the sidelines of the conference, he is expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (April 4).
On the final day of the summit, Dr. Yunus will formally assume the role of Chairman of BIMSTEC for the next two years, marking a significant leadership transition in the regional bloc.
