Dhaka, Apr 05 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called an emergency meeting in response to the recent announcement by US President Donald Trump imposing additional tariffs on products from 185 countries and regions, including Bangladesh.

According to the latest information, the tariff rate on Bangladeshi exports to the US has been increased to 37 percent, raising serious concerns over the potential impact on the country’s economy, particularly the export sector.

The emergency meeting will be held at 7:30 pm today (Saturday) at the State Guest House Jamuna. High-level participants will include top economic experts, advisors, and senior government officials, who are expected to assess the implications of the US decision and explore possible countermeasures or diplomatic strategies.

This move comes amid growing global debate and uncertainty over the sweeping tariff changes introduced by President Trump. Analysts warn that the increased tariffs could severely affect Bangladesh’s key export industries, including ready-made garments, leather goods, and textiles, which heavily rely on access to the US market.

The outcome of today’s meeting is likely to shape Bangladesh’s next steps in addressing the fallout from the US trade move. Further statements are expected following the conclusion of the meeting.
