Dhaka, Apr 19 (V7N)- Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has directed all concerned ministries and departments to expedite the implementation of recommendations made by the Women's Affairs Reform Commission to eliminate discrimination against women.
Professor Yunus gave the directive after formally receiving the commission's report at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday (April 18).
“This is not just a women's issue — it's a national issue. The recommendations that are immediately implementable should be acted upon without delay. We must set an example for the rest of the world,” Yunus stated. “The girls of the world are watching this. Women in other countries are also serious about this cause and will be inspired by our steps.”
The Chief Advisor emphasized that the report should not remain confined to government offices. “This report should be printed like a textbook and distributed widely among the public. It must be accessible, not shelved.”
He added that the National Consensus Commission will also work to present these proposals to political parties, ensuring the reforms are prioritized in future national agendas.
Shirin Parvin Haque, head of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission, highlighted the symbolic importance of their work. “In memory of those who sacrificed their lives in July, we wanted to do something meaningful for the country and society,” she said.
She explained that the recommendations were categorized into three parts:
-
Actions that can be taken by the current government
-
Reforms requiring implementation by the next elected government
-
Long-term goals reflecting the aspirations of the women's movement
The commission has proposed reforms in 15 key areas, aiming to ensure equality, safety, and empowerment for women across all sectors.
Members of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission were present during the handover of the report.
