Dhaka, Apr 21 (V7N)- Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has urged regional and global leaders to collaborate in addressing the escalating climate crisis, citing its direct impact on vulnerable nations like Bangladesh. His call came during a virtual address to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) conference held in Bangkok on Monday (April 21).
Representing Bangladesh through a video message, Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of climate-resilient urban development and poverty alleviation, underlining the country's ongoing reform efforts under the interim government.
“The interim government is taking responsibility and pulling Bangladesh out of a fragile economy destroyed by the previous authoritarian regime,” Dr. Yunus stated.
He also highlighted the government's active steps toward sustainable development and social business initiatives as tools for empowering communities, both urban and rural.
Dr. Yunus warned that climate-induced disasters—such as floods and tsunamis—pose an imminent threat to millions and can no longer be tackled by individual countries. He called on world leaders and regional partners to unite and take collective, immediate action.
A delegation from Bangladesh participated in the high-level regional conference, where climate action, economic recovery, and sustainable growth were key themes.
