Rome, Apr 27 (V7N) — After a four-day visit to Qatar and attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Italy, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has departed for Bangladesh. He left Rome at 1 p.m. Bangladesh time on Sunday (April 27).

During his stay in Rome, Dr. Yunus held meetings with two prominent cardinals of the Catholic Church in Vatican City. The discussions centered on various geopolitical issues and global challenges.

Pope Francis' body was laid to rest on Saturday at the Basilica of St. Mary in Rome. Following the funeral, Dr. Yunus had a separate meeting with the clergy in the Italian capital.

In the meeting, Cardinals Silvano Maria Tomasi and George Jacob Kuvakkad reflected on the late Pope’s principal life goals and dreams. They also expressed high appreciation for Dr. Yunus' contributions to social development and poverty alleviation.

The cardinals described Pope Francis and Dr. Yunus as close friends, thanking the Chief Adviser for his lifelong dedication to the cause of the marginalized.

Both Cardinal Tomasi and Cardinal Kuvakkad are among the potential candidates for the upcoming papal election, scheduled to take place next week.
