Dhaka, July 30 (V7N) – A cheque worth Tk 2.25 crore has been recovered from the residence of Abdur Razzak bin Sulaiman (Riyad), a former leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who was recently arrested for attempting to extort Tk 50 lakh from a former Member of Parliament’s house in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The recovery was disclosed during a press briefing by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday (July 30) morning. DMP spokesperson Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed that the cheque was found based on information obtained during the interrogation of the accused. A separate case regarding the recovered cheque is under process at Kalabagan Police Station.
Details of the Extortion Incident
On July 26, five individuals were caught red-handed while attempting to collect Tk 40 lakh after having already extorted Tk 10 lakh from the former MP's residence in Gulshan. The suspects include:

According to police, Riyad led the extortion attempt, posing as a coordinator. He hails from Senbagh Upazila in Noakhali and currently resides in the New Model area of Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Following the arrests, four of the accused were placed on a 7-day police remand in connection with the extortion case.
Organizational Fallout
In response to the scandal, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement expelled three members involved in the incident on the night of July 26. Furthermore, the organization suspended all its committees across the country, retaining only the central committee amid ongoing investigations.
Police said more information may surface as the investigation progresses and additional cases may be filed as needed.
