Rome, October 14 (V7N) — Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has sought cooperation from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in three new sectors aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s food and agricultural capacity.
During a bilateral meeting with FAO Director-General Dr. Qu Dongyu at the organization’s headquarters in Rome, Italy, on the sidelines of the World Food Forum and FAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations, Dr. Yunus requested FAO’s assistance in the following areas:
-
Capacity building in deep-sea fishing and fish processing,
-
Development of preservation and processing technologies to boost fruit exports, and
-
Strengthening post-harvest management, including the establishment of low-cost portable cold storage facilities across Bangladesh.
Dr. Yunus expressed deep appreciation for FAO’s long-standing support in Bangladesh’s agricultural development, noting that enhanced collaboration in these new areas would further promote sustainable growth and food security.
In response, Dr. Qu Dongyu praised Bangladesh’s progress in agriculture and rural development, describing it as a “high-performing country.” He assured continued FAO assistance through technical support and innovative partnerships to help expand the nation’s deep-sea fishing industry and agricultural exports.
Dr. Dongyu also warmly welcomed Professor Yunus and commended his lifelong contribution to rural and agricultural advancement in Bangladesh.
