Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) — Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has emphasized that the United Nations must evolve and adapt to changing global realities to fulfill humanity’s collective aspirations for peace and multilateralism.
In a message marking United Nations Day on Saturday, Dr. Yunus said, “If the United Nations wants to realize our shared aspirations for peace and cooperation, it must adapt to the changing dynamics of the world. We support reforms to make the UN more dynamic, inclusive, and capable of meeting global expectations.”
He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Charter, adding, “On this significant day, we pledge that Bangladesh will continue to play its role in building a peaceful and stable world envisioned by the United Nations.”
Highlighting Bangladesh’s long-standing engagement with the UN, Dr. Yunus noted that since joining the organization in 1974, the country has “established itself as an active, responsible, and contributing member state.”
Addressing the current global challenges, the Chief Advisor warned that the world is facing “deep uncertainty due to ongoing conflicts,” and that multilateral diplomacy is under severe test. “Extreme nationalism and indifference to human suffering are undermining the progress achieved through the long struggle of humankind,” he said.
Dr. Yunus also extended warm greetings to all UN member states, partners, and stakeholders on behalf of the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of United Nations Day.
