Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) — In a major administrative reshuffle ahead of the upcoming national election, the Government of Bangladesh has appointed new District Commissioners (DCs) in 23 more districts. The Ministry of Public Administration issued two separate notifications on Thursday, November 13, while canceling the previous appointments of two officials.

Earlier, in the past two days, new DCs were appointed in 29 districts—14 districts last Sunday and 15 districts on Saturday night—bringing about extensive changes through transfers and postings.

Among the newly posted DCs, notable appointments include Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, previously DC of Narayanganj, now assigned to Chattogram; S.M. Mehedi Hasan, Director of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) and Deputy Secretary, posted to Lakshmipur; Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Deputy Secretary of the Planning Division, appointed to Munshiganj; Md. Saifur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, posted to Netrokona; Md. Shahadat Hossain Masud, Deputy Secretary of the Finance Division, appointed to Chapainawabganj; Md. Saiful Islam, Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Chief Adviser’s Office, assigned to Naogaon; Md. Anwar Sadat, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, posted to Khagrachhari; Mu. Reza Hasan, Chief Executive Officer (Deputy Secretary) of Rajshahi District Council, assigned to Comilla; and Md. Raihan Kabir, Deputy Secretary of the Public Division, appointed as DC and District Magistrate of Narayanganj.

Other postings include Shahid Mostofa (Ministry of Information) to Pabna, Rezaul Karim (Ministry of Commerce) to Dhaka, Enamul Ahsan (Cabinet Division) to Rangpur, Ashek Hasan to Jessore, Dr. Syed Enamul Kabir (Ministry of Information) to Meherpur, Shafiqul Islam (Secretary, Dhaka South City Corporation) to Noakhali, Alam Hossain to Gazipur, Maksudur Rahman to Gaibandha, Annapurna Debnath to Kurigram, Jahangir Alam to Madaripur, Tauhiduzzaman Pavel to Moulvibazar, Khairul Alam Sumon to Barishal, Taslima Akter to Barguna, and Najma Ashrafi to Rangamati.

The notifications emphasized that the appointments are effective immediately and are in the public interest.

District Commissioners serve as Returning Officers during national elections, overseeing the electoral process from the announcement of the schedule to the final vote counting. They also appoint polling officers, presiding officers, and assistant presiding officers, ensuring the smooth administration of polling.

Additionally, following the withdrawal of DCs from eight districts, the government reassigned them to various ministries and divisions. Key reassignments include Mohammad Solaiman (DC of Chapainawabganj) as Deputy Secretary of the Planning Division, Fatema Tul Jannat (DC of Munshiganj) to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Mohammad Abdul Awal (DC of Naogaon) to the Ministry of Agriculture, A.B.M. Iftekharul Islam Khondker (DC of Khagrachhari) to the Ministry of Health Services, Rajib Kumar Sarkar (DC of Lakshmipur) to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Saiful Islam (DC of Chattogram) to the Ministry of Shipping, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman (DC of Netrokona) to the Ministry of Land, and Md. Amirul Kaiser (DC of Comilla) to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

These measures reflect the government’s proactive steps to ensure efficient administrative management during the electoral process.
