Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Retired Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that there is no panic following the verdict in the July uprising case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He added that minor incidents occurred, but nothing major has taken place.

He made the remarks during a briefing after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order on Monday (November 17).

The advisor confirmed that a letter had previously been sent to India requesting Sheikh Hasina’s return to implement the verdict, and another letter will be sent.

Regarding security measures, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali had instructed officers to act decisively against attackers attempting to throw fire and cocktail bombs at vehicles, including the use of firearms if necessary. Responding to questions, the Home Affairs Advisor said that every citizen has the right to self-defense.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, announced today that Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal have been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, a royal witness, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
