Munshiganj, Jan 03 (V7N)- Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain has said that Bangladesh maintains good relations with the international community and that there is no pressure from abroad regarding the upcoming national elections.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with heads of government departments in Munshiganj on Saturday (January 3).

“The elections are being organized by us,” the Foreign Affairs Advisor said. “Time is short. The government will hold the elections on February 12 and then hand over responsibility to the elected government. Therefore, there is no question of pressure from the outside world. How other countries maintain relations with Bangladesh is their own matter.”

Regarding the return of suspects involved in the Osman Hadi murder case, Touhid Hossain said there is no scope for haste in the process. He stated that efforts are ongoing to bring those involved back to Bangladesh, but although there is information suggesting the suspects may be in India, their exact whereabouts are not yet known.

“If specific information were available, the Indian government would have been formally requested to arrest them,” he added.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor also noted that the trial process is not time-bound, but assured that the government is making all possible efforts to bring the accused to justice as swiftly as possible.

Earlier in the day, Touhid Hossain paid tributes at the Munshiganj July Martyrs’ Memorial and visited the graves of the three martyrs killed on August 4. Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Menhazul Islam, and other senior officials were present during the programme.
