Dhaka, Jan 25 (V7N) — Environment Advisor Rizwana Hasan on Sunday said it is possible to ensure a sustainable horn-free environment if people remain aware and responsible in their respective roles.
She made the remarks following a coordinated campaign to enforce silent zones at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday.
The advisor said drivers are being trained through the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to control noise pollution. As part of the initiative, enforcement activities have initially begun using 50 modern sound level meters.
Rizwana Hasan said ensuring a horn-free environment in the airport area is a government priority, expressing hope that the initiative would serve as a model for other parts of the country.
“This effort can demonstrate how awareness and enforcement together can significantly reduce noise pollution,” she said.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz was also present at the event. He said maintaining a horn-free zone around the airport could set an example for the entire city.
“If the airport area remains horn-free, it will inspire similar initiatives across Dhaka,” he added.
