Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N)- Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that there is no security risk surrounding the upcoming 13th National Parliament election and referendum, stressing that the overall law and order situation in the country remains normal.
“I have said it before and I still say it—there is no risk in the elections,” the advisor said while briefing reporters after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from various law enforcement agencies and focused on reviewing the country’s current security situation ahead of the elections.
The Home Affairs Advisor stated that no major security threats have been identified so far and that the government has taken all necessary preparations to ensure the polls are held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
He said election campaigns are progressing according to schedule and added that political parties will be urged to avoid any unwanted or unpleasant incidents during the campaign period. Law enforcement agencies, he noted, have been instructed not to carry out any illegal orders.
“If any irregularities or chaos occur at polling centers, the returning officers and assistant returning officers will be required to take strict action,” he said.
Issuing a stern warning, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said no financial benefits can be accepted while performing election-related duties. “If anyone is found involved in financial transactions, strict action will be taken against them,” he added.
