DHAKA, Feb 16 (V7N) – Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has credited the current progress in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector to the combined efforts of all stakeholders.
“The agricultural sector is now in a better position than before,” he said while addressing a farewell reception held by the departments and organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium in Khamarbari, Dhaka.Chowdhury highlighted that prices of agricultural products remain at a tolerable level and fertilizer stocks are stronger than ever before.
He emphasized the initiatives taken over the past one and a half years to ensure food security and develop a sustainable, farmer-friendly agricultural system.Despite facing significant challenges such as a fertilizer crisis and repeated flood damage in several regions, the sector has shown strong recovery, he noted.
Stressing the importance of targeted support, Chowdhury urged authorities to properly identify genuine beneficiaries and ensure timely delivery of agricultural incentives. He also called for adopting more farmer-friendly projects, ensuring proper use of subsidy funds, reducing excessive fertilizer use, and strengthening monitoring mechanisms to guarantee fertilizer sales at government-fixed prices.Expressing gratitude, the adviser thanked officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and its affiliated departments and agencies for their cooperation during his tenure.
The farewell reception was presided over by Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian and attended by heads of various departments and agencies under the ministry.
