Savar, Feb 18 (V7N) — Newly appointed Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the Bangladesh Liberation War represents the birth of the nation, while the “24 movement” symbolizes the struggle to overthrow dictatorship and restore democratic order, stressing that both carry equal significance and must be respected.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the National Martyrs' Memorial on Wednesday (February 18).
The minister emphasized that the Liberation War remains the foundation of the country, and honoring the sacrifices of freedom fighters is a national responsibility. He noted that remembering those who gave their lives is essential on every occasion, adding that the country must uphold respect for all historic movements and sacrifices made after independence.
According to him, a nation that fails to respect its people and the contributions of its “proud children” cannot progress. He described such respect as a core value necessary for national development.
Khasru also said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has played a role in struggles for freedom and democracy, asserting that the Bangladesh envisioned through those struggles must be built in the interests of the people and the country.
