Dhaka, Apr 11 (V7N) – Ready-made garment exports are facing downward pressure due to US tariff concerns and instability linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, while rising energy uncertainty is adding further strain on the sector.
Textile entrepreneurs say the situation is making production increasingly difficult and have urged faster adoption of energy-efficient technology to sustain competitiveness in the global export market.
The remarks were made by leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association during a discussion at the organization’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Saturday morning. They warned that maintaining production levels will be challenging unless modern, energy-saving machinery is widely introduced.
BTMA also announced plans to host a three-day Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition from December 16 to 19 at the International Convention Center. The exhibition will showcase new technologies, including energy-efficient machinery for the garment and textile sector, with participation from both domestic and international exhibitors.
As part of preparations, BTMA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Textile Association to promote cooperation and technology exchange.
