Dhaka, May 10 (V7N)- The world today is celebrating World Mother’s Day with deep respect and love for mothers whose affection, sacrifice, and compassion shape human civilization from the very beginning of life.

Observed every year on the second Sunday of May, the day is dedicated to honoring mothers and recognizing their immeasurable contributions to family and society. Across different countries, people are expressing gratitude to their mothers through greetings, gifts, flowers, and various social programs.

The origin of Mother’s Day traces back to the United States. It is known that a peace-loving social worker named Anna Maria Reeves Jarvis was inspired by her mother Ann Reeves Jarvis, who worked for women’s rights and founded the “Mother’s Day Work Club” in Virginia.

According to historical accounts, Ann Reeves Jarvis once expressed a heartfelt wish before her daughter, saying she hoped one day a special occasion would be dedicated to mothers for their lifelong service to humanity.

Following the death of her mother in 1905, Anna Jarvis took initiatives to commemorate her mother’s contributions and first observed Mother’s Day through her Sunday school activities. Later, in 1914, then US President Woodrow Wilson officially declared the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.

Since then, the day has been observed annually in many countries around the world.

On the occasion of the day, social media platforms have been flooded with emotional tributes, memories, and messages celebrating mothers. Different educational, cultural, and social organizations have also arranged discussions and programs highlighting the role of mothers in building a humane and compassionate society.
