Gazipur, May 20 (V7N) — A foundation stone laying ceremony for the country’s first “National Disaster Training Institute” in Gazipur turned into a notable moment of historical significance after a 1978-era commemorative item was presented to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during the event.

The ceremony was held on Wednesday at Satash Mouza in Gazipur amid formal state arrangements, with officials, local representatives, and invited guests in attendance.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan handed over a specially prepared souvenir to the Prime Minister during the program. Officials said the item is linked to historical documentation from 1978, when then-President Ziaur Rahman declared Gazipur a subdivision and initiated development activities in the area.

According to organizers, the presentation was intended as a symbolic gesture highlighting Gazipur’s administrative and developmental history.

Following the presentation, the Prime Minister acknowledged the gesture and expressed appreciation to the district administration for preserving historical records and presenting them at a state event.

The foundation stone ceremony for the National Disaster Training Institute was completed later as scheduled, with speakers emphasizing the importance of strengthening national disaster preparedness and training infrastructure.

Authorities said the new institute is expected to play a key role in improving disaster management capacity in the country once completed.
