Beijing, Jun 25 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a meeting with Liu Haixing in Beijing on Thursday, where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing development cooperation, and expanding people-to-people exchanges between Bangladesh and China.
The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse at 9:15 a.m. local time.
During the meeting, Liu Haixing referred to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China, expressing interest in further strengthening communication and cooperation between the two parties.
He said both sides could explore new areas of cooperation, particularly in media exchanges, think tank collaboration, people-to-people contacts, and initiatives aimed at improving living standards.
Liu reaffirmed China's support for Bangladesh's sovereignty, security, and development, emphasizing the importance of advancing bilateral relations based on mutual respect and cooperation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sought China's continued support for various development initiatives in Bangladesh, including the construction of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. He expressed confidence that the longstanding friendship between the two countries would continue to grow in the years ahead.
In response, Liu Haixing agreed with the Prime Minister's views and expressed optimism that the people of Bangladesh would enjoy greater prosperity and improved living standards under his leadership.
Earlier on the same day, the BNP and the Communist Party of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the first time at the same venue. On behalf of the BNP, Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir signed the agreement, while Liu Haixing signed on behalf of the Chinese side.
The MoU is expected to enhance cooperation in political communication, media exchanges, think tank collaboration, and people-to-people relations. Senior officials from both countries were present during the signing ceremony.
