Dhaka, Jul 01 (V7N) — The government has taken a final decision to bring the entire area of the Purbachal New Town Project under Dhaka district to streamline administrative management. The decision was approved by the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) at its 121st meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
The meeting also approved the establishment of a new police station in Chattogram and the creation of three new upazilas in Chattogram, Cumilla and Mymensingh.
A significant portion of the Purbachal New Town Project currently falls under Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj district, while another section lies within Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur district. The division of the project across three districts had created administrative complexities.
To address those challenges, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works proposed bringing the entire project area under Dhaka district, a proposal that received final approval at the meeting.
Under the approved administrative reorganization, Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram will be divided to establish a new Halda Police Station.
NICAR also approved the formation of three new upazilas:
-
Fatikchhari Uttar Upazila will be created by incorporating six unions from Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram.
-
Bangara Upazila will be formed by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla.
-
Adarshnagar Upazila will be established by taking eight unions from Pagla Police Station under Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh.
The government expects the administrative restructuring to improve public service delivery, strengthen local governance, and facilitate more efficient administration in the newly reorganized areas.
