DHAKA, July 5, (v7n) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will formally inaugurate the second unit of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINH) on August 15, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain announced today.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting at NINH in the capital ahead of the launch of the new 500-bed facility, the minister expressed optimism that the Prime Minister's visit would pave the way for further advancements at the institute.
Reaffirming the government's electoral commitments, Sakhawat Husain said the administration is working to decentralize healthcare services across the country. "Our healthcare services will be built in line with the election manifesto. The health system will be decentralized so that people from Chattogram or other districts will not have to come to Dhaka for treatment. We want to take healthcare to the doorsteps of rural people and seek everyone's cooperation in achieving this goal," he said.
The minister added that the Prime Minister would provide policy direction, while all relevant parties would collaborate to ensure successful implementation.
Addressing the dengue situation, he said coordinated anti-dengue measures have been in place for the past two months. District-level coordination committees have been formed, comprising deputy commissioners, civil surgeons, hospital superintendents, city corporation officials, and other stakeholders. Cleanliness campaigns are ongoing nationwide, with larvicide tablets distributed and spraying operations intensified to control mosquito populations.
He noted that this year's dengue situation is comparatively better than the previous year, and the government has adopted integrated patient management plans, ensured adequate saline reserves, kept mobile hospitals on standby, and arranged physician training.
State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit said the government has prioritized the health sector and stressed the need for decentralized services to ensure equitable access. He added that the government plans to establish neuroscience institutes in at least four older divisional cities, with NINH playing a key role in producing specialist physicians to run those institutions.
Senior officials, including DGHS Additional Director General Professor Dr. Zahid Raihan and NINH Director Professor Dr. Nuruzzaman Khan Khasru, also attended the meeting.
