Dhaka, Jul 11 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday joined the celebrations marking the 81st founding anniversary of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), taking part in a series of events highlighting the institution's long-standing contribution to medical education and healthcare in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister arrived on the Dhaka Medical College campus at around 10:00 a.m., where he formally inaugurated the anniversary programme by releasing balloons and white pigeons. A festive atmosphere prevailed across the campus and surrounding areas ahead of his arrival.
As part of the event, Tarique Rahman laid the foundation stone for two new female hostels to be constructed under the 20-Hostel Project of the Directorate General of Medical Education.
He also inaugurated the programme by planting a tree on the lawn adjacent to the Shaheed Dr. Milon Auditorium, symbolizing the institution's commitment to growth and sustainability.
Later, the Prime Minister attended an open discussion titled "DMCians' Thoughts on Modernizing the Health System of Bangladesh," organized as part of the anniversary celebrations.
According to the programme schedule, the Prime Minister is expected to announce several new initiatives and development projects related to Bangladesh's healthcare sector during the event.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, an alumna of Dhaka Medical College, who also attended the anniversary programme.
