DHAKA, July 25 (V7N)— Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed his firm conviction that the government is fully committed to transforming Bangladesh into a self-reliant and technology-dependent nation, emphasizing the urgent need to pass on the vision of a talent-based country to the next generation.
He made the remarks on Saturday while delivering his speech at the inaugural ceremony of the Biotechnology, Electronics, AI and Robotics (BEAR) Conference 2026, held at the Novotheater in the capital Dhaka.
Highlighting the nation's technological roadmap, the Prime Minister announced that Bangladesh aims to achieve its target export earnings in the semiconductor sector by 2030. He noted that the government has classified semiconductors as a national priority sector requiring a coordinated, unified effort to grow.
"The entire world stands at a critical juncture where artificial intelligence, robotics, and automated technology are jointly laying the foundation for the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions," the Prime Minister stated.
Citing figures shared by expert speakers, Prime Minister Rahman noted that over 3,000 Bangladeshi semiconductor professionals are currently working in leading tech firms, research institutes, and universities across North America, Europe, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
To capitalize on this human capital, the government has already initiated policy implementations aimed at fostering a business-friendly environment for high-tech investments. As part of these measures, all import duties on raw materials used in the semiconductor manufacturing sector have been completely withdrawn in the current national budget to bolster domestic growth and international competitiveness.
