Dhaka, July 26 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged army officials to remain above political considerations and personal preferences while selecting officers for promotion.

He made the remarks as the chief guest while formally inaugurating the ‘Army Chief Election Board-2026’ at the Army Headquarters on Sunday (July 26) morning.

Addressing the members of the promotion board, the Prime Minister instructed them to give priority to officers’ professional competence, leadership abilities, discipline and integrity during the evaluation process.

Tarique Rahman said the Bangladesh Army has been playing an important role not only in safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty but also in assisting the civilian administration in maintaining internal peace, stability and responding to various disaster situations.

He also expressed sincere appreciation to all members of the Bangladesh Army, including the Chief of Army Staff, for their dedication and sacrifices in serving the nation during critical times.

The Prime Minister emphasized that fair and transparent decisions in promotion processes are essential for maintaining professionalism and strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces.

It is noted that in the first phase of the promotion board, eligible Bangladesh Army officers from the ranks of Colonel to Brigadier General and Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel will be considered for further promotion.
