Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N)- A severe gas shortage has disrupted operations at CNG filling stations across the capital, causing increased suffering for city residents even on the weekend Friday (August 14).
Drivers have been waiting in long queues at CNG stations since early morning, but many are unable to refuel their vehicles. Most filling stations in different parts of the capital have reportedly been forced to close due to low gas pressure and disruptions in supply.
Many stations have put up 'No Gas' signs in front of their pumps, while attendants remain idle due to the lack of supply.
Low- and middle-income drivers have been hit hardest by the crisis. Drivers of CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and ride-sharing vehicles said they are unable to pick up passengers regularly because they cannot obtain gas on time.
As a result, their daily income has fallen significantly. Many drivers also said they are struggling to meet their household expenses and fulfill their financial obligations to vehicle owners because of the reduced earnings.
The prolonged gas shortage has also added to commuters' difficulties, as disruptions at CNG stations are affecting the availability and movement of public and ride-sharing vehicles across the capital.
