New York, Sep 23 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters, where the two leaders discussed Bangladesh-Haiti bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest and various aspects of regional and international cooperation.

They also exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Bangladesh and Haiti.

The two prime ministers explored opportunities to expand bilateral relations across various sectors and discussed areas where the two countries could deepen cooperation.

According to Bangladesh government officials, the meeting also covered Haiti’s law and order situation and the possibility of drawing on Bangladesh’s experience in UN peacekeeping operations in Haiti.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is in New York to attend the 81st UN General Assembly and has been holding a series of bilateral and high-level meetings with world leaders and representatives of international organisations.

His engagements on September 22 also included meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and other international officials.

Tarique Rahman is scheduled to deliver his maiden address to the UN General Assembly on September 24, with global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development and humanitarian issues among the key areas of focus during his visit.
