Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N)- Rashed Khan, political assistant to the prime minister, has accused an adviser to the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of supporting Ujjwal, also known as Ayas, who has been accused of defacing graffiti of poet Rabindranath Tagore.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (October 11), Rashed Khan alleged that Jamaat had taken a direct stand in favor of Ayas, while the National Citizen Party (NCP) was also facing criticism over its position on the matter.
Referring to debates over Tagore and Dhaka University, Rashed Khan said that the poet had not wanted the university to be established. He also questioned Ayas's identity and alleged that Ujjwal had changed his name and appearance after moving from Mymensingh to Dhaka.
According to Rashed Khan, Ujjwal had previously served time in jail in connection with a fraud case, which he said remained pending.
Rashed Khan also raised questions about a statement Ayas reportedly made from a prison van on Sunday, in which he asked for access to his WhatsApp account so that its contents could be deleted. Rashed Khan questioned what information the account contained.
He further alleged that Barrister Shahriar Kabir, an adviser to the Jamaat Ameer, had provided Ayas with money to purchase lime for defacing Tagore's graffiti. Rashed Khan also accused Kabir of financially supporting controversial organizations and activities associated with the July movement.
These allegations were made by Rashed Khan in his social media post. The claims could not be independently verified from the information provided, and no response from the individuals accused was included.
