Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inspected a mobile laboratory van used for food safety testing at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning, reviewing the process of collecting and testing food samples.

The prime minister visited the mobile laboratory, stationed under the Cabinet Division at the Prime Minister’s Office, before entering his office. During the visit, officials concerned briefed him on the laboratory’s operations and testing procedures.

Officials informed the prime minister that food sample testing and monitoring had been strengthened as part of the government’s campaign against food adulteration. Mobile laboratories are being used to support these activities, with plans to expand the programme across all 64 districts in phases.

Currently, mobile laboratories are conducting food sample testing and monitoring in eight metropolitan areas. The activities are carried out alongside mobile court operations led by executive magistrates and under the supervision of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.

The authority is also proceeding with the procurement of 72 mobile laboratory vans under its Capacity Building Project during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

In addition to testing, the mobile laboratories are equipped with facilities to raise public awareness about food safety. Monitors installed outside the vans display awareness videos to educate people about safe food practices.
