Dhaka, August 19 — The Interim Government is committed to eliminating discrimination and fostering unity in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), according to Supradeep Chakma, the newly appointed Advisor on CHT Affairs. Speaking at an event held in the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex on Bailey Road, Chakma emphasized the government's determination to crush the divisive practices that have historically held back the hill district communities.
During the event, representatives from various sectors, including students, teachers, and current and former officials from government and international organizations, gathered to congratulate and express their support for the Advisor. Chakma assured that all ethnic communities in the region, including the Pankhwa, Marma, Khumi, Kheang, Bom, Chak, Mro, Tanchangya, Lusai, Tripura, and Chakma, would be provided with employment opportunities based on merit and need, ensuring that no one is left behind.
"The present Chief Adviser has sought cooperation from both domestic and international diplomats to rebuild a model Bangladesh, and we will work together for the development of the country," said Chakma. He also highlighted that corruption will not be tolerated in the CHT, and reforms will be implemented across the region to ensure fair governance.
In a bid to promote sports and unity, Chakma pledged to build a football field in the hilly areas. He also called on all communities to respect law and order, expressing confidence in the support of the region's brave students.
The event concluded with a moment of respect for the martyred freedom fighters of 1971 and those who lost their lives during the fall of the dictatorial government in August 2024.
Notable attendees included Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Kangkon Chakma, UNDP official AA Mong, representatives from various ethnic groups, and other local leaders.
