Dhaka, Dec 23, (V7N) - On Sunday, Bangladesh and the World Bank signed two financing agreements totaling $900 million to support environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and inclusive growth in the country.

The $500 million Second Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit will help Bangladesh transition to green and climate-resilient development. It focuses on policy reforms for better public planning, financing, and implementation of green initiatives. The financing will address air pollution, enhance sustainable water and sanitation services, improve public procurement, and support energy efficiency in buildings.

The $400 million Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project will improve climate-resilient and gender-responsive urban infrastructure along a 950-kilometer economic corridor in Bangladesh. It will benefit about 17 million people by developing climate-resilient infrastructure, creating jobs, and constructing over 300 kilometers of footpaths, regional bus terminals, supermarkets, parks, and roads, among other facilities. The project emphasizes coordinated investment in secondary cities and green infrastructure, with a focus on the needs of female users.

The agreements were signed by Shahriar Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, and Abdoulaye Seck, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan.
