Dhaka, Jan 07 (V7N) — A clash erupted between more than a hundred students of Prime Asia University and the police in front of Gate No. 1 of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. The incident escalated to the point where the police fired two rounds of blank bullets to disperse the crowd.
The students had earlier staged a protest in front of the National Press Club at around 2:30 PM, demanding a permanent campus, the resignation of the chairman of the Board of Trustees, and addressing nine other grievances. They occupied the area for about 30 minutes before marching towards the Education Building.
A four-member delegation representing the students entered the Secretariat to meet Education Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud at approximately 4:30 PM. However, tensions flared outside as the remaining students engaged in a heated argument with the police.
The police resorted to a lathicharge when the situation began to spiral out of control. To further disperse the crowd, they fired two blank rounds.
No injuries have been reported so far, and the situation is reportedly under control. The outcome of the meeting between the student delegation and the Education Advisor remains awaited.
This protest follows growing discontent among the students over unresolved issues, including the demand for a permanent campus. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
