DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (V7N) – Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser, emphasized the potential for collaboration between Bangladesh and China in addressing air quality and sustainable development through shared policies, innovations, and community-driven initiatives.
Speaking at a seminar titled "Analysis of Environmental Sustainable Development and Management in China and Bangladesh", organized by the Center for China Studies at the University of Dhaka, Rizwana called for enhanced cooperation, particularly in sharing comprehensive data on transboundary rivers and fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
"Honesty and Accountability Key to Sustainability"
The adviser highlighted the need for integrity in sustainable development efforts and accountability for polluters.
"Decades of activism are essential to protect the environment. We must redesign development patterns, hold polluters accountable, and reject harmful practices like destroying rivers for the leather industry or flattening hills for unregulated development," Rizwana stated.
She underscored that technological advancements must respect nature's principles, advocating for sustainable management of development activities instead of attempting to control nature itself.
In a direct appeal, Rizwana urged Dhaka University to phase out single-use plastics on campus as a demonstration of leadership in sustainability.
