Dhaka, Nov 27 (V7N) — Cyclone 'Shen-Yar', currently located in the Malacca Strait and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal, has weakened into a deep depression, the Meteorological Department reported on Thursday.

As a precaution, authorities have prohibited fishing boats and trawlers from venturing into the deep sea and instructed all vessels to display distant warning signal number 1 at four major seaports.

According to the Meteorological Department, at 9 am Thursday, the depression was situated:

  • 2,035 km southwest of Chittagong Seaport

  • 1,975 km from Cox's Bazar

  • 1,945 km from Mongla

  • 1,930 km southwest of Payra Seaport

The system is expected to move north-northwestwards and may intensify further. Winds within 48 km of the depression’s center are blowing at 50 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h, causing turbulent sea conditions around the area.

Fishermen and seafarers have been urged to remain cautious and follow official warnings.
