The leading edge of Cyclone Rimal has begun to strike the Khapupara coast in Patuakhali. Although the immediate threat of the cyclone has passed for the Cox's Bazar coast, the risk of a tidal surge remains.
Assistant Meteorologist Abdul Hannan stated that the leading edge of Cyclone Rimal is advancing over Khapupara. While the cyclone has not yet fully made landfall, there is still a risk of a 7-8 foot tidal surge for the Cox's Bazar coast.
He further noted that Cox's Bazar cannot be considered safe yet. The high tide at night could cause water levels to rise by 7-8 feet, potentially flooding the low-lying areas of Cox's Bazar.
Meanwhile, the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Department indicates that Cox's Bazar remains under great danger signal number 9.
Additionally, river ports in Cox's Bazar have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 4.
