Dhaka, Nov 04 (V7N)- The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has set November 10 for hearing two leave-to-appeal petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, challenging a High Court verdict that increased her jail term from five to ten years in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. The hearing date was scheduled by Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice Md Rezaul Haque on Monday, following a request from Khaleda’s lawyer, Kayser Kamal.

Khaleda filed these appeals on March 14, 2019, seeking to overturn the High Court's decision that extended her sentence to a decade. Initially, a Dhaka special court had sentenced the former prime minister to five years in prison on February 8, 2018. However, following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the High Court subsequently extended her sentence to 10 years on October 30, 2018.

Additionally, on Sunday, the High Court granted permission for Khaleda to prepare paper books for a separate appeal related to the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, where she was sentenced to seven years in prison by a lower court.
