Dhaka, Nov 04 (V7N)- Former Awami League lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim has been formally arrested in connection with a case accusing him of attempted murder. The incident allegedly took place on August 5 during the anti-discrimination student movement, where Fazlur Karim claims he was attacked in front of Dhaka Alia Madrasa.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza granted the arrest order after sub-inspector Md Hasanur Rahman from Chawkbazar Police Station, who is leading the investigation, presented Salim in court, requesting that he be shown as arrested in this case.

The case details reveal that Fazlur Karim, 50, joined a rally on August 5 during a mass movement. As the procession passed Dhaka Alia Madrasa, an alleged attack by police and Awami League supporters left several injured, including Karim. He was subsequently treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Karim filed the complaint on October 26 at Chawkbazar Police Station, listing 104 individuals as accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Salim was previously detained on September 2 in Bangshal and had been remanded for five days in a separate case regarding the July 18 death of Khalid Hasan Saifullah.
