JHALOKATHI, Aug 16 (V7N) — Police have arrested a convicted prisoner who escaped from Jhalokathi District Jail nearly two years ago while serving a two-year prison sentence.
Monir Howladar, also known as Hasan, was arrested from the Siddhakathi area of Nalchity Upazila on Friday night, August 14. He is the son of the late Joinddin of Fulhari village in Siddhakathi Union of Nalchity.
According to police, a court sentenced Monir to two years in prison in a 2015 GR case, numbered GR-14 (Jhalokathi). He escaped from Jhalokathi District Jail nearly two years ago while serving his sentence and had remained at large ever since.
Police launched an operation in the Siddhakathi area on Friday night to execute an arrest warrant issued by the court and apprehended him.
Nalchity Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhiduzzaman Sohag confirmed the arrest, saying Monir Howladar, a convicted and warrant-listed accused who had escaped from jail, had been taken into custody.
Further legal action has been taken against him in accordance with the court's instructions.
