RAJSHAHI, Aug 16 (V7N) — A prayer session and food distribution programme for underprivileged people was held in Rajshahi on Saturday to mark the 82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The programme was organised by ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ in the Sapura area under Ward No. 15 of Rajshahi City Corporation.

Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator and Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton attended the event as the chief guest and distributed food among underprivileged people.

Before the distribution, a special prayer and munajat were offered seeking eternal peace and forgiveness for the departed former prime minister.

Speaking at the programme, Riton said Khaleda Zia had spent her political life campaigning for the restoration of democracy and the protection of people's voting rights.

He also said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was working to fulfil Khaleda Zia's unfinished vision and was striving to build a new Bangladesh and improve the welfare of the country's people.

Former Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Vice-President Md Shaheen Iqbal and former Ward No. 15 Councillor Abdus Sobhan Liton attended the programme as organisers.

Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Vice-President Aslam Sarker was present as a special guest. Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations, including Shah Makhdum Thana BNP Member Secretary Nasim Khan, Chandrima Thana BNP Member Secretary Monirul Islam Jony, Kashiadanga Thana BNP General Secretary Majiul Ahsan Himel, former Metropolitan Chhatra Dal President Akbar Ali Jacky and former youth leader Robin-ul-Hasan Zahid, were also present.
