Savar, Aug 15 (V7N) – Youth and Sports Minister Md Aminul Haque today said the government is committed to implementing its election manifesto to make the country's vast youth population skilled and self-reliant, urging all concerned to perform their duties with honesty.
"Everyone has a responsibility to build a skilled youth society . . . all concerned should perform their respective duties with honesty," he said while addressing a day-long special workshop titled "Formulation of Action Plan of the Department of Youth Development for Implementation of the Election Manifesto" at the National Institute of Youth Development in Savar.
The minister instructed all participants to submit their key recommendations in writing as proposals to the office of the Director General of the Department of Youth Development within the next seven days. He also said meetings would be held every four months to review progress.
He said the training system is being modernised in line with the demands of the times. Although training is currently provided in 83 trades, unsuitable trades will be dropped and new courses will be introduced. As part of the initiative, efforts are underway to expand freelancing, mobile servicing, caregiving and third-language training courses to the upazila level. The ministry is also reviewing a proposal to establish modern training centres in every upazila.
Issuing a stern warning against the misuse of government loans provided to make young people self-reliant and corruption, the minister said the government has a "zero tolerance" policy towards corruption. He stressed the need to ensure that loan funds are not misused in any way and called for greater discipline, including reporting to offices on time.
Aminul Haque said work is already underway to create a central database of trainees to properly assess trained youth and facilitate their employment. He also said instructions have been given to ensure strict field-level monitoring of every activity conducted through the Department of Youth Development.
Director General of the Department of Youth Development Md Motahar Hossain chaired the workshop, while Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md Mahbub-ul-Alam attended as the special guest.
