Savar, Mar 02 (V7N) - Billal Hossain, a Swechchhasebak League leader and convicted drug dealer, was arrested by the Dhaka District North Detective Branch (DB) in Ashulia, Savar. Billal, sentenced to life in a drug case and accused in multiple criminal cases, including murder and land grabbing, was detained on Saturday night through a technology-based intelligence operation, as confirmed by OC Jalal Uddin.
Billal, son of Muslem Uddin Contractor from Dendabor Notunpara, Ashulia, rose from being an electrician to amassing wealth through drug trafficking and illegal activities. He is implicated in eight drug cases and linked to the infamous July massacre case. His criminal operations reportedly spanned drug distribution networks and illegal land acquisitions in Ashulia and nearby areas.
According to DB officials, Billal had been evading arrest for years by frequently changing locations. A review of the CDMS database revealed his involvement in various criminal activities. Police plan to present him before the court and seek remand for further investigation into his operations.
The arrest highlights concerns about political figures engaging in criminal enterprises. Authorities are expected to intensify efforts to dismantle such networks and ensure accountability for individuals exploiting political affiliations for illegal activities.
