Rajshahi, Mar 9 (V7N) - Students and interns at Rajshahi Medical College (RU) have announced a complete shutdown of services in response to ongoing demands regarding healthcare regulations and the rights of medical professionals. The protest took place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, where students gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the current healthcare system, particularly regarding the use of the title "doctor" by individuals without proper qualifications.

The students submitted a memorandum outlining five key demands to the Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi Medical University. These demands include requiring that only MBBS and BDS degree holders be allowed to use the title "doctor," updating medical care regulations to align with international standards, and addressing the ongoing crisis in the health sector by appointing 10,000 doctors. They also called for the closure of Medical Assistant Training Schools (MATS) and for a fair pay structure for medical professionals.

Dr. Abdullah, a representative of the protesting interns, warned that if their demands are not met by March 12, they would be forced to suspend emergency services, outpatient services, and private practices. The protest reflects growing frustration among medical students regarding the state of healthcare in Bangladesh and their commitment to ensuring that qualified professionals are recognized and supported within the system.
