Pabna, Mar 25 (V7N)– A critical phase in the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has been successfully completed, with the installation of the turbine in the first unit.

"The crucial and final step in the installation of the turbine in the first unit of the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna has been completed," Rosatom Engineering Branch confirmed in a press release.

The successful installation involved the precise mounting of the turbine set onto the bearing gear, a pivotal component for the plant's operational safety and efficiency.

"In this step, the turbine set has been accurately mounted on the bearing gear. During the post-installation test, the turbine shaft was rotated at a slow speed," the press release detailed.

The bearing gear plays a vital role in ensuring proper alignment and balance of the turbine rotor during startup and shutdown, contributing to the plant's reliable operation. Post-installation tests confirmed the high quality of the turbine assembly and its perfect alignment.

"The Rosatom Engineering Branch announced this information in a press release on Tuesday (March 25) afternoon. The press release stated that this bearing gear ensures proper alignment and balance of the turbine rotor during startup and shutdown, which is essential for safe and efficient operation. During the test, experts were convinced of the high quality of the turbine set assembly and perfect alignment," a Rosatom representative stated.

Alexey Deiri, Vice-President of Etmastroy Export for the Bangladesh project, highlighted the significance of this achievement.

"Alexey Deiri, Vice-President of Etmastroy Export for the Bangladesh project, said, 'The installation of the turbine of the first unit of the Rooppur project has been successfully completed. This is a very important step before the startup. The installation of the turbine set on the bearing gear and control testing have ensured the high quality of the equipment assembly and its reliability,'" Deiri confirmed.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Bangladesh's first nuclear power facility, will consist of two 1,200 MW power units, utilizing 3+ generation VVER reactors. Preparations are now underway for fuel loading and the subsequent startup of the first unit.

"It is worth noting that the country's first nuclear power plant is being built in Rooppur, Ishwardi, Pabna. The project will have two power units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each. 3+ generation VVER reactors have been installed in the units. Necessary preparations for the first unit are underway for fuel loading and subsequent startup as soon as possible. Rosatom Engineering Branch is acting as the general designer and contractor of the Rooppur project," a project overview stated.
