TANORE, Rajshahi, May 24 (V7N) – The Bilkumari Beel in Tanore, Rajshahi, has seen a return to life, and with it, renewed hope and activity in the local fishing communities, following several days of continuous rainfall. The beel, which had previously dried up under the sun, is now replenished with water.

A recent visit to Bilkumari Beel confirmed the water accumulation, with fishermen already seen actively engaged in fishing. This influx of water has provided much-needed relief to fishing families in villages like Kuthipara, Gollapara, Jelepara, and Gokul, who had been struggling with unemployment due to the prolonged dry spell.

Local fishermen recounted that the beel had been completely dry for the past month, causing significant hardship for their families due to the absence of fish. They expressed gratitude for the recent rains, which have "brought the beel back to life."

Thousands of families in these villages near Bilkumari Beel rely on fishing for the majority of their income throughout the year. While in other years the beel would retain some water, its complete desiccation this year had led to an "extreme crisis" for these families. The fishermen noted that seeing the beel completely dry was a "big shock" in their lives, as it had not happened in many years. However, with fishing now resumed, "laughter and relief are returning to the family."
