Rangamati, Dec 01 (V7N) – Newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Abdur Rakib held a views-exchange meeting with journalists working in the district on Sunday morning, emphasizing coordinated efforts to maintain communal harmony, ensure peaceful elections, and intensify the fight against drugs.
The meeting, held at 11 a.m. in the SP’s conference room, was presided over by SP Rakib. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Iqbal Hossain, Additional SP Zahidul Islam, Additional SP (Crime) Jasim Uddin, the district Press Club president, general secretary, former president, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahed Uddin, and journalists from various media outlets attended the discussion.
During the meeting, SP Rakib said the district police will work sincerely to uphold communal harmony in the hill region. He stressed that ensuring a peaceful and orderly national election is a top priority and noted the crucial role of journalists in preventing misinformation. “No one should fall victim to harassment due to rumors or misleading information. The police will ensure strict action against such attempts,” he said.
Highlighting the force’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics, the SP stated that drugs pose a threat not only to individuals but to the entire community. He reaffirmed that dismantling drug networks, curbing sales, and reducing consumption remain key priorities. Regular anti-drug drives, enhanced intelligence gathering, and stronger community coordination will be intensified, he added, seeking active cooperation from journalists.
SP Rakib also outlined several initiatives to maintain law and order, including faster police response, increased patrolling, expanded technological surveillance, and confidence-building measures among the public. “Whoever commits a crime will face legal consequences, regardless of identity,” he said.
He further noted that stronger collaboration and information sharing between police and the media will help reinforce peace and stability in the district. Before joining Rangamati, the 25th BCS police officer served as Superintendent of Police in Chandpur.
