Madaripur, Dec 27 (V7N) — Grassroots leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal have expressed anger and protest following the suspension of party posts of Md Faruk Bepari, the convener of Madaripur District Jubo Dal, who has been named as the prime accused in a case over an attack, vandalism, and arson on Sarbik Paribahan, a transport company owned by the brother of former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan.
According to multiple sources, the army, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were placed on high alert at key points across Madaripur town to prevent sabotage, vandalism, arson, and attacks on roads and highways targeting both government and private installations.
Party leaders said that Jubo Dal activists, under the leadership of Md Faruk Bepari, carried out visible processions and remained active at important locations in the town, claiming their intention was to assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order. They alleged that vested interests linked to the ruling Awami League and sections of what they described as “yellow journalism” misrepresented the events through fabricated and misleading reports.
The protesting leaders demanded that the central leadership of Jubo Dal take the matter into serious consideration and properly evaluate Faruk Bepari, whom they described as a dedicated leader who has repeatedly faced attacks and legal cases due to his political activities.
Speaking to journalists, Md Faruk Bepari said he has been named as the number one accused in several cases, including the case filed over the attack, vandalism, and arson at Sarbik Paribahan. He said he led party activists to remain active at key points in the city solely to assist law enforcement agencies, prevent criminals from carrying out attacks, vandalism, or arson, and to protect lives and property.
Faruk Bepari also said their objective was to ensure that no group could destabilize the situation or disrupt the upcoming national parliamentary election. He expressed confidence that if the central leadership reviews the matter based on facts and evidence, his innocence would be established.
The issue has heightened internal debate within the party at the local level, with grassroots activists calling for what they describe as a fair and evidence-based assessment by the central leadership.
