Jhalokathi, Dec 27 (V7N) — Students and members of the public formed a human chain in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokathi on Friday, demanding the nomination of Masuma Hadi as a parliamentary candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in place of her slain brother, Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.
The demonstration was held at around 12:00 pm at the bus stand intersection of the municipal town. Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was the spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 seat in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Speakers at the human chain included Md Nazmul Hasan Titu, Sathi Akter, MN Mamun, Asif Zia, Abdur Razzak, Md Sirajul Islam, Mohammad Miraj, Md Ahad, Omar Faruk, and Abu Hanif.
The speakers said Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a distinguished son of Nalchity, was actively preparing to contest the election but was killed for speaking out against what they described as fascism. They said he fought for justice, democracy, and the rights of the people and intended to raise his voice in parliament against oppression. However, his efforts were silenced through violence.
They said although Osman Hadi is no longer alive, his ideals and struggle must remain alive. According to them, nominating a member of his family would help carry forward his vision. The speakers said they see a reflection of Osman Hadi in his sister Masuma Hadi and believe she is capable of continuing the struggle for justice and democracy.
The demonstrators further said that by contesting the Dhaka-8 seat, Masuma Hadi would stand against domination and work for justice, fulfilling the dream of her brother.
Responding to the demand, Masuma Hadi said she has no personal statement to make at this moment but added that if a decision is taken jointly by the Inqilab Mancha and her family, she would be willing to contest the election.
The human chain ended peacefully, with participants urging political stakeholders to respect public sentiment and honor the legacy of Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi through democratic means.
