MONGLA, April 11 (V7N) A human chain was formed in Mongla demanding justice for the kidnapping, murder, and disappearance of BNP leader and businessman Mahe Alam, whose killing in April 2023 was allegedly covered up at the behest of an influential Awami League leader.

Speakers at the programme, organized by the Conscious Citizens’ Association and Alam’s relatives at the Mongla Port Municipality premises, accused authorities of conducting a fake autopsy and burying Alam’s body under a false identity to suppress the crime.

Mahe Alam, founding president of the Mongla Municipal Fishermen’s Party, was kidnapped on April 10, 2023, murdered in the Sundarbans, and his body disappeared. On April 13, his body was recovered from Karamjal, but was falsely identified and buried as “Hilton Nath.” Following a DNA test, the body was exhumed months later and reburied in Mongla according to Islamic rituals.

Speakers, including former Upazila Vice Chairman Sujon (Md. Nur Alam Sheikh), BNP leaders Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Khorshed Alam, Shahajan Fakir, Babul Hossain Roni, Md. Nasir Talukder, Golam Nur Joni, Bablu Bhuiyan, and Alam’s son Sumon Rana, demanded immediate arrest of bandits Billal Sardar and Belayet Sardar, alleged to have orchestrated the crime.

They criticized the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for delaying submission of the investigation report despite a court order forcing the police to register the case.
