JHALAKATHI, April 10, (V7N) — A traditional horse racing competition was held in Kanthalia, Jhalakathi, drawing hundreds of spectators and reviving a vibrant rural tradition.
The event took place Friday afternoon in the field behind the house of Kachua Khandaker in Shauljalia Union, organized by the local youth community. Thirteen horses from different parts of the upazila participated.
Results of the race:
First place: Md. Mohsin’s horse
Second place: Md. Riyad’s horse
Third place: Md. Siraj Sikder’s horse
Prizes were distributed among the winners by prominent industrialist Md. Shahidul Islam. The ceremony was attended by Shauljalia Union BNP General Secretary Md. Mostafa Helal Kiron, social worker S.M. Monirul Islam Rungu, and several other local leaders.
A fair was organized around the field, adding festive charm to the occasion. Hundreds of local women, children, and youth enjoyed the race, which has become a yearly highlight of rural Bengal’s cultural heritage.
